OBITUARY
Mary L. Smith, 94, of Phoebe Berks, Wernersville, PA, and Lakewood, PA, died on January 7, 2026 in the Reading Hospital, Reading, PA. She was born on March 2, 1931in Reading, PA, the daughter of George J. Kugler and Edna A. Martin Kugler. She is survived by her six children: Cynthia Gabel (Nancy) of Reading, PA, Thomas A. Gabel (Lori) of Success, MO, Joanne Daly of Poughkeepsie, NY, Frederick Gabel of Little Egg Harbor Township, NJ, Diane Iwanowycz (John) of Riverview, FL, and Kurt Smith (Janet) of Middlesex, NJ; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and nieces, cousins, and a nephew.
She was a dedicated mother and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and quilting. She was a member of Lake Underwood Nimrod Club, St. Juliana’s Church in Pleasant Mount, PA. She volunteered at the food pantry in Lakewood and attended weekly meetings at Northern Wayne Library.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Kenneth Gabel (1961) and second husband Theodore S Smith (2010), her brother George Kugler and his wife, Dora.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 from 10AM to 11AM followed by mass at 11AM all at St. Juliana’s Church, 2048 Creamton Dr., Pleasant Mount, PA, 18453. Burial will take place in the spring in St. Juliana’s Cemetery.
