A Dickson City man faces charges after police said he fled the scene of a domestic dispute and later tried pulling away from officers who were restraining him.
Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Pancoast Street around 10:58 p.m. Tuesday for the report of a domestic dispute between a male and female, police said.
Police were notified the man — later identified as James Melia — was throwing and kicking things inside a residence, according to a criminal complaint.
Cassidy Stanco told officers she was having an argument with her boyfriend, who was smashing things inside and wouldn’t give her phone back, police said.
Stanco informed police the argument started because Melia thought she was cheating on him, and because she did not want to be left alone at her daughter’s birthday party, officers said.
As she was talking with police, officers noticed Melia walking toward the backyard, and ordered him to stop, but he sprinted away, according to the criminal complaint.
While police pursued him, Melia tried jumping over a fence but couldn’t make it over, officers said.
He refused to obey additional commands before officers were eventually able to take him to the ground, police said.
Melia later started aggressively pulling away from police, according to the criminal complaint. He also began kicking after being placed in a patrol car, officers said.
Officers found broken glasses and other items on the floor in the kitchen, but Stanco told them Melia did not hit or assault her, police said.
Police charged Melia, 23, with resisting arrest, harassment and disorderly conduct.
A preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 28 at 10 a.m.
