Scranton police detectives arrested a Dickson City man Friday in connection with a death investigation from Dec. 12.

James “JB” Barbarino, 19, faces felony charges of transferring a firearm to a minor, criminal use of a cell phone and theft.

Investigators say Barbarino gave a gun to a juvenile who was taken into custody after a fatal shooting on Bryn Mawr Street in mid-December.

City police officers responded to 1337 Bryn Mawr Street on Dec. 12 and found  Dylan Smith, 16, of Taylor, had been shot. Police began lifesaving measures before transporting Smith by ambulance to Geisinger Community Medical Center, where he died, officers said.

Investigators determined a gun used in the shooting was stolen from an Archbald residence on Nov. 30 and recovered on Dec. 12, during the death investigation. Dickson City and Throop Police departments assisted in the arrest.

Barbarino has a preliminary hearing scheduled for 11:15 a.m. on Jan. 23 before District Judge Paul Keeler. He remains at Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Anyone with information about the investigation is urged to contact Scranton police at 570-348-4139.
