BUTLER TWP., LUZERNE CO. — Butler Township Police have filed felony charges against a Scranton man accused of stealing thousands of dollars in merchandise from his employer.

Police say Daniel T. Brennan, 61, is charged with felony retail theft and receiving stolen property following an investigation into repeated thefts at Best Cigar Prices & Pub on Hillside Drive.

According to investigators, the alleged thefts were uncovered after an employee reviewing inventory surveillance noticed Brennan hiding cigars inside his personal travel case. A subsequent internal review determined that Brennan is accused of removing merchandise from the retail area on five separate occasions during July and August of last year.

Authorities say more than 600 cigars, along with accessories and company apparel, were taken, resulting in a total loss of approximately $9,055. Police noted that Brennan had only been employed at the business for a short period before the thefts came to light.
