Several Lehigh Valley businesses and organizations got a shoutout on national television Tuesday when actress Amanda Seyfried and CBS “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert highlighted a number of them during the show’s “Community Calendar” segment.

Seyfried, a 2003 Allen High School graduate known for her roles on “Mama Mia!” and “Mean Girls,” excitedly ran out when Colbert introduced the segment, which highlights local events in a celebrity’s hometown, often with a humorous take.

Events at Colonial Pizza in Easton, Stony Run Winery in Breinigsville, Tipsy’s Bar and Lounge in Allentown and the State Theatre in Easton were among those mentioned. The Allentown Public Library and some of its events, including adult painting and magnetic bookmark making, were also featured.

Seyfried also highlighted Fastnacht Day — the Pennsylvania Dutch celebration held the day before Ash Wednesday — at Mary Ann Donut Kitchen in Allentown. She gave a detailed description of fastnachts, which are doughnut-like treats, and mentions that they sometimes contain potatoes.

“Which is why all the items come with the warning ‘may contain some trace of vegetable,’” she joked.

The doughnut shop appreciated the shoutout, noting on social media that it is “not everyday we are mentioned on national television.”

“Allentown’s very own, Amanda Seyfried, took the time to make the very important announcement that Fastnacht Day is on Tuesday, February 17th this year!” the shop posted, along with a clip from the segment.

Stony Run Winery and the State Theatre posted similar messages on social media.

Seyfried was on the show to promote her movie, “The Testament of Ann Lee,” which opened in December.

She has regularly expressed her fondness for her native Lehigh Valley in interviews, most recently in 2025 when she said she enjoys visiting the Allentown Farmers Market. That interview prompted the market’s owners to send her a gift basket filled with treats and other swag from the market’s vendors.
