BUTLER TWP. — Police in Butler Township charged a Scranton man with stealing more than $9,000 of merchandise, including cigars, from his employer, Best Cigar Prices & Pub.

Daniel T. Brennan, 61, was arraigned Tuesday by District Judge Daniel O’Donnell in Butler Township on charges of receiving stolen property and retail theft. He was released on $20,000 unsecured bail.

According to police:

An employee a the retail store reviewed surveillance footage of inventory movement when he allegedly observed Brennan concealing cigars in a personal travel case. An internal investigation revealed Brennan had stolen approximately 600 cigars, accessories and company apparel during July and August, police stated.

Police allege the thefts resulted in a total loss of $9,055 to the store on Hillsdie Drive.

Brennan was employed at the store for a short time when the thefts were alleged discovered.
