Another busy weekend is set for sports tourism in Erie County. The 24th annual Stars & Stripes Coed Gymnastics Invitational will be hosted by Team Lightning Inc. and Team Lightning Productions.
The event will take place Friday to Sunday at the Bayfront Convention Center.
“Stars & Stripes has grown to become the largest Coed Invitational in Pennsylvania,” said Doug Pershun, program director for Team Lightning Inc. “This year we are welcoming over 1,500 athletes competing from over 47 quality gymnastics clubs traveling from New York, Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.”
The Main Event takes place on Saturday at 6 p.m. which will showcase 110 national-level men’s and women’s Level 9 and 10 gymnasts. The awards will be presented at 10 p.m.
The competition will continue throughout the weekend with Friday’s events beginning at 8:40 p.m. The final group will compete at 6:15 p.m. with awards given at 9:35 p.m.
On Sunday the competition will begin at 8:40 a.m. The final group competing at 6:20 p.m. with awards at 9:45 p.m.
Event tickets will be available day of at the door. Adults are $20 and children will be $10. Part of proceeds for the event will benefit first responder initiatives.

Hosted by TCS Hockey the Erie MLK Cup features boys’ divisions from 9 and under through 16 and under.
The Games will be held at LECOM Sports Park and Erie Insurance Arena. The competition will run Friday through Monday beginning at 7 a.m.
The tournament will house 750 participants from 42 different teams from Maryland, New York, Ohio, Michigan, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.
