Someone trying to steal a car was shot by a resident Tuesday morning in Catasauqua, according to officials.

The alleged car thief was interrupted by a resident, who fired a number of rounds, hitting the suspect at least once, Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin Holihan said in a news release Wednesday. The person who was shot fled in a private vehicle and was taken to a nearby hospital.

The incident happened about 1 a.m. on Second Street, according to the DA’s office.

They received treatment for their injuries, which they are expected to survive, the DA said. They were still in the hospital as of Tuesday afternoon.
