READING, Pa. – Investigators in Reading say a routine traffic stop that turned into a police pursuit led to the seizure of a large-scale stash of illegal drugs.
On the evening of January 7, Reading Police on patrol in the area of Cotton and S. 15th streets observed a vehicle with an expired registration.
Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, at which time the vehicle fled, resulting in a pursuit.
Police say it eventually came to a stop at a dead end, and the driver, 54-year-old Joe Jenkins, was taken into custody.
During the course of the investigation, officers located approximately 10 pounds of methamphetamine inside the vehicle, with an estimated street value of $227,000.
Jenkins is charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, fleeing and eluding and related offenses.
Online court records list him in custody at Berks County Jail on $100,000 bail.
