Every Philadelphia Eagles fan knows that general manager Howie Roseman is always up for a good deal to be made in a trade, but there might be a perfect shot to get it done in the offseason.
There’s one team for Roseman to target, and that’s the Pittsburgh Steelers after the kind of week they have had. It started with a 24-point blowout loss in the AFC Wild Card game against the Houston Texans that triggered star defensive player T.J. Watt to say he hasn’t “had the answer for a long time” regarding the playoff issues and to not ask him about it. It was topped by the news that Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin stepped down.
With the Steelers in turmoil and potentially stripping the roster down with massive changes, they might be in the market to let some top players go. Roseman might be able to strike a deal.
Eagles could make a trade for T.J. Watt and Steelers
Watt has been one of the most dominant pass rushers in the NFL, making the Pro Bowl in eight straight seasons in his nine years in the NFL. He has also been an All-Pro five times and won the Defensive Player of the Year award in 2021 after breaking a then-NFL record for sacks in a season with 22.5, a record since broken by Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett with 23.5.
The Eagles would love to have Watt on the team as he would be a perfect fit for defensive coordinator Vic Fangio’s defense. Not only is he great coming off the edge, but he can drop back into coverage when he needs to, to throw offenses off, as he has nine career interceptions.
Roseman can use Watt as a way for the Eagles to avoid taking a risk by giving a massive contract to Jaelan Phillips and instead give it to Watt. It might cause Philly to miss out on re-signing key players like linebacker Nakobe Dean and safety Reed Blankenship, but the Eagles would solidify their defensive line. The Eagles could easily turn to Jihaad Campbell at linebacker and Marcus Epps at safety, with Andrew Mukuba at the other safety spot.
The cost of Watt, though, would be a hefty one for the Eagles, as it would take a minimum of two first-round picks, but probably more, in the ballpark of two first-round picks and either another pick or a player to replace him. That would put Nolan Smith Jr. or Jalyx Hunt in the crossfire of the trade, which would hurt the Eagles in some aspects, but still gain Watt in the process.

This is a deal the Eagles must consider and try to get done, as it could make a world of difference as Philly looks to take the revenge tour in 2026 after a too-early playoff exit.
