The Wright Center for Community Health has withdrawn from the Scranton Zoning Board plans to build a $5 million health center in North Scranton to replace its existing one on North Main Avenue, according to city Planner Don King.

The Wright Center application was on the board’s agenda for its monthly meeting Wednesday, Jan. 14, according to public notices published Jan. 6 and Jan. 7 in The Times-Tribune. But the center withdrew the application Jan. 8 because the project scope and overall site layout and design are under revision and subject to substantial changes, according to correspondence from a center engineer to King. The engineer said the center anticipates resubmitting a new application to the zoning board for review in coming months, when a revised layout and design are completed.

The withdrawn plan called for demolishing a building at 1727-1729 N. Main Ave. and building a new structure there — next to the Wright Center for Community Health North Scranton health center at 1721 N. Main Ave., which opened in July 2023 — and then razing the 1721 building, after the new building would have been completed.
