A Weissport man with a history of violent crime died by suicide after barricading himself with a firearm inside a Super 8 Hotel on Airport Road in Allentown, authorities announced on Sunday, Oct. 19.
Mica R. Kincaid, 62, was pronounced dead at 1:37 p.m. inside the hotel room after police attempted to serve him with an arrest warrant for a parole violation, according to the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office. His cause of death was ruled a gunshot wound, and the manner of death was suicide.
The incident began around 10:16 a.m. when Pennsylvania State Police Troop M Bethlehem troopers spotted Kincaid outside the hotel while serving the warrant. He fled into a room and barricaded himself with a firearm. The Allentown Emergency Response Team attempted to negotiate a peaceful surrender, but when entry was made, Kincaid was found dead.
Court records show Kincaid was awaiting a preliminary hearing on multiple charges filed in September, including Driving Under the Influence, Driving While Operating Privilege Suspended, Careless Driving, and Operating Without Required Financial Responsibility.
Kincaid had a violent past. In 2005, he pleaded guilty to aggravated assault after beating a woman and threatening to “shoot it out” with police if confronted, The Morning Call reported at the time. The victim, Tracy Stahler, told troopers that Kincaid claimed he had six bullets in his gun, “one for everybody in the house.” She suffered a lacerated spleen and multiple injuries in the attack. Lehigh County Judge William E. Ford later sentenced Kincaid to five to 10 years in state prison, calling him a danger to the community.
The Lehigh County Coroner said an autopsy will be performed on Tuesday, Oct. 21, with toxicology testing included. The case remains under investigation by the Troop M Criminal Investigation Unit with assistance from the Allentown Police Department, Allentown Emergency Response Team, and the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office.
