Federal Bureau of Investigation agents, a bomb squad and police had a heavy presence Thursday evening in a Bethlehem Township neighborhood, published reports say.

Residents living near Lehigh and 12th streets received a Nixle alert shortly before 7:30 p.m. asking them to avoid the area.

“(There’s) no immediate danger to the public,” the alert stated.

Shortly before 9 p.m., residents received another Nixle alert that the incident was cleared.

A WFMZ-69 News broadcast reported some neighbors were stranded outside their homes for hours and not allowed to enter their homes.

Township Police Capt. Shaun Powell and Township Police Chief Gregory Gottschall didn’t immediately return requests for more information Thursday evening.

Property records show a 70-year-old man who lives at the property where law enforcement focused was charged Thursday evening with three counts misdemeanor making terroristic threats; three counts misdemeanor reckless endangerment; and misdemeanor simple assault.
