The mayor of Slippery Rock criticized a Pittsburgh group for sharing a flyer online for a “tactical training” event related to civil disobedience. In a now-deleted social media post, Pittsburgh’s Commission on Human Relations shared a flyer for an event on Jan. 13 called “Rebirthing Civil Disobedience.”The flyer read, “Tactical Training in the Art of Civil Disobedience,” and featured photos of clashes with law enforcement. The post caught the attention of Slippery Rock Mayor Jondavid Longo, who took to his accounts. Longo stated, “The Pittsburgh Commission on Human Relations, an official city department, held a “tactical” training course in conjunction with Democratic Socialists of America for those who want to sabotage and interfere with enforcement of codified law.”He called for Pittsburgh Mayor Corey O’Connor to take action by removing members of the commission who are responsible and by halting funding for further programming. The commission, which is described on the city’s website as a “civil rights law enforcement agency,” is comprised of 11 members, according to the website. The commission’s social media account responded to the mayor’s post, but it appears the reply was deleted. The group said it did not hold the training but rather shared the post. It went on to say that city money was not spent on the event, and the post was not reviewed or approved by the administration. Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 reached out to O’Connor’s office and the commission. We are still waiting for a response. Longo was not available for an interview.
