Walter J. Hoffert, Jr.
OBITUARY
Walter J. Hoffert, Jr., also known as “Red” or “Wally”, of West Lawn, passed
away Wednesday August 27, 2025, after a brief stay at Mifflin Court,
Shillington. Born in Reading, Mr. Hoffert was the son of the late Walter H.
and Annie V. (Gallagher) Hoffert. He was a member of Saint John Baptist
de la Salle Catholic Church and served in the United States Marine Corp
during the Vietnam War. He was a saxophone player for various local
bands in the Reading area for 15 years as well as a proud member of the
Marine Corp Band for 4 years. Walter had a love for jazz music, the
outdoors, fishing and camping. He was employed by Carpenter
Technology for 30 years as a bar straightener in the finishing department
until his retirement. Mr. Hoffert is survived by his daughter Janice L. Hoffert
of Sinking Spring; his brothers James W. Hoffert husband of Judy Hoffert of
Linwood, New Jersey and Joseph W. Hoffert of Reading. As well as two
nieces and one nephew.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Bean Funeral Home, located
at 3825 Penn Ave. Sinking Spring, on Friday, September 5, 2025 from
10:00 am to 11:15 am. Funeral Procession will depart Bean Funeral Home
at 11:15 am to a prayer service, which will be held at the Chapel of Saint
George at Gethsemane Cemetery, 3139 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, at
12:00 pm. Entombment with Military Honors rendered by the United States
Marine Corp will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to
