SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The winter weather is perfect for some folks and events across northeastern and central Pennsylvania. Downtown on Ice in Scranton is definitely one of them.
More than 50 ice sculptures are the main attraction along more than 30 center city blocks.
The event also features a variety of family fun activities and creates a lot of foot traffic.
It’s a good thing for the more than 75 downtown retailers during the winter season.

“Trying to support all of our local restaurants, great shops, great entertainment that we have. The point of the whole weekend is to get people down here with great entertainment that’s just behind me, and hopefully everyone comes and visits something that maybe they didn’t know that was right in their backyard here in downtown Scranton,” Scranton Ice Festival Co-Chair Tony Bartocci said.
“We are so thrilled to be a part of it every year, and it’s just great to see so many people out supporting the local businesses and the local students who are here demonstrating their talents,” Double R Twirlettes Director Kathleen Mercatili explained.
Downtown on Ice continues until Saturday at 7:00 p.m. and again on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Downtown Scranton.
