ERIE, Colo. (KKTV) – Two people were killed after a small plane crashed just east of the runway at a northern Colorado airport.
The crash happened Sunday afternoon at the Erie Municipal Airport, 3 miles south of the town of Erie and about 4 miles west of I-25.
The Erie Police Department later updated that the pilot and passenger had not survived.
“We are heartbroken to share that there were no survivors in the single-engine plane crash that occurred earlier today,” the police department said. “… Our deepest sympathies are with their families and loved ones as they face this unimaginable loss.”
The police department said the two victims were not from Colorado.
“We recognize that this incident may have been difficult for many in our community to witness or hear about. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will be conducting a full investigation into the cause of the crash.
“We are grateful for the swift and professional response of our first responders and partner agencies. Thank you to our community for your patience and understanding as this scene was safely managed.”
