READING, Pa. – On Sunday, the Reading Chapter of the NAACP held its largest fundraiser of the year.

The 38th Annual Freedom Fund Gala was held at Redner’s Event Center.

The gala helps fund programs sponsored by the Reading branch to go towards education, housing, economic development, health, political action and veterans’ affairs.

A number of community impact awards were also given out.

“What we try to do is not only raise money, but highlight folks in the community that are doing great work,” said Wynton Butler, NAACP Reading Chapter President.

Chapter President Wynton Butler tells us this year’s focus is the “fierce urgency of now” to get people excited about voting and getting involved in the community.
