The Flyers suffered another injury Saturday afternoon.
Rodrigo Abols exited in the first period as the Flyers took on the Rangers at Xfinity Mobile Arena. He was ruled out for the rest of the game with a lower-body injury.
The 30-year-old center was unable to put any weight on his right leg as teammates Garnet Hathaway and Emil Andrae helped him off the ice. Abols had his right foot caught in an awkward position as he battled for a puck along the boards.
“It’s not good,” Rick Tocchet said of Abols’ injury after the Flyers’ 6-3 loss. “I’m not going to get into it, but it’s not good.”
The Flyers came into Saturday missing four players because of injuries: Dan Vladar (undisclosed), Tyson Foerster (arm), Bobby Brink (upper body) and Rasmus Ristolainen (upper body).
The 6-foot-4 Abols has been an effective fourth-liner for the Flyers. He entered Saturday with eight points (two goals, six assists) and a plus-4 rating over his last 13 games.
One would think this injury will change Abols’ availability for the Olympics next month, but we’ll see. He’s slated to play for Team Latvia.
