The Pittsburgh Steelers are going to be heading into a new era this offseason following the departure of longtime head coach Mike Tomlin.
Tomlin, who has been the team’s head coach since the 2007 season, has never led the team to a losing season. Each and every year, the Steelers have been a winning team and have been a contender in the AFC.
At this point, no one knows who Pittsburgh will hire to replace Tomlin. That decision needs to be a good one.

Another change is expected for the Steelers. Aaron Rodgers is not expected to return to the team following Tomlin’s departure. Pittsburgh will be looking for a new starting quarterback this offseason as well.

With that being said, the Steelers are also going to be pursuing roster improvement at other positions. One area that clearly needed help during the 2025 season was wide receiver, even after trading for star wideout DK Metcalf last offseason.
Keeping that in mind, Pittsburgh has been connected to a blockbuster trade for a projected $30.6 million star.
K.D. Drummond of Cowboys Wire has suggested a trade with the Dallas Cowboys for wide receiver George Pickens. In return, the Steelers would give up the No. 21 overall pick.
“With Mike Tomlin retiring, what if the Steelers organization decided they wanted to give it another go with Pickens,” Drummond wrote. “Would he be open to such things with a new head coach and philosophy? One would have to imagine the Steelers having a better long-term solution at QB than running it back with grandpa Aaron Rodgers in 2026, to pique Pickens’ interest.”

Pickens is coming off of a big season with the Cowboys after being traded to Dallas by the Steelers last offseason. He played in all 17 regular season games, catching 93 passes for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns. Those numbers would look great back in Pittsburgh.
Would the Steelers have interest in reuniting Pickens after just one season apart? That would be the biggest question about this idea. However, it’s a move that could make a lot of sense if the two parties are open to it.
