After nearly 2 1/2 years in business, Legacy Cigar Lounge in West Reading has permanently closed.

The lounge at 559 Penn Ave. opened in September 2023 in the former location of Chef Alan’s restaurant.

Owners Rick and Adrean Turner made the announcement on Facebook last week.

They thanked patrons for making Legacy a “culture, a community, and a shared experience that extended far beyond cigars.”

“Legacy was a place where guests became friends — and friends became family,” the Turners said on Facebook Jan. 9. “So many were introduced to a lifestyle that values slowing down, meaningful conversation and intentional connection. And through those connections, dreams came true.”

They said the lounge saw genuine relationships flourish.

“Marriages, birthdays, anniversaries, retirements, promotions, and baby showers all found a home here,” the Turners said. “Some guests and members earned college degrees, started and expanded businesses, and some others secured new jobs and careers.”

The Turners said they were deeply grateful to the staff, members, guests and more who helped shape Legacy.

“We are blessed in knowing that the Legacy we leave is not the building but the beautiful memories that we all share,” the Turners said. “Thank you all for making this experience one that we will live in our hearts forever.”

The lounge was open to all but offered paid monthly memberships with perks like a personalized humidor locker, discounts on cigars, and priority booking for private events.

With its leather seating, warm interior and full suite of amenities, as well as a selection of top-shelf spirits and gourmet lite bites, the lounge sought to create an upscale experience.

Rick Turner described Legacy’s ambiance as “masculine but still sexy.”

The Turners did not respond to questions about their plans for the property.

Legacy joins the ranks of a handful of other Penn Avenue businesses that have closed or changed hands in the past two years.

Those closures include G.N.A Ristorante, which shuttered over the summer and listed its property at 421 Penn Ave. for sale. A real estate listing for the site on LoopNet remains active.

Another recent closure was Restaurant Blackbird, which shut its doors at 619 Penn Ave. in September after opening over the summer.

That site has since become the new home of Taqueria Comali, which formerly occupied a spot on Court Street in West Reading.
