Pennsylvania Farm Show food court totals

MICHAEL FULLER, WHO IS IN ONE OF THE ICONIC SPOTS OF THIS EVENT. MICHAEL. LORI AND JERRY. ICONIC IS ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. WE ARE HERE AT THE PENNSYLVANIA FARM SHOW AT THE FOOD COURT, AND THEY ALWAYS TELL ME THAT YOU CANNOT COME TO THE PENNSYLVANIA FARM SHOW WITHOUT GETTING SOME POTATO DONUTS OR TRYING ANYTHING POTATO LIKE. AND WE’RE GOING TO SPEAK TO THE MAN WHO IS IN CHARGE OF ALL OF IT, NATHAN TOLMAN, THE CEO OF THE PENNSYLVANIA COOPERATIVE POTATO GROWERS. I MEAN, NATHAN, JUST TELL ME YOU GUYS ARE THE ICONIC SPOT HERE AT THE PENNSYLVANIA FARM SHOW. TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT YOU GUYS GOT GOING ON TODAY. WELL, WE LOVE FARM SHOW WEEK BECAUSE PENNSYLVANIA POTATOES ARE A CELEBRITY THIS WEEK. AND WHAT’S BETTER THAN A WARM POTATO DONUT? AND OUR PIEROGIES SAUTEED IN BUTTER AND ONIONS. WE HAVE LOADED BAKED POTATOES. WE HAVE FRENCH FRIES. WE HAVE SWEET POTATOES WITH BUTTER AND BROWN SUGAR. I MEAN, IT DOESN’T GET ANY BETTER THAN FARM SHOW, DOES IT? IT DOESN’T GET ANY BETTER. AND I MEAN, TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT BECAUSE I WAS SAYING I WAS HERE FOR THE FIRST TIME ON FRIDAY. I DIDN’T GET A CHANCE TO TRY EVERYTHING. WE’RE GOING TO TRY IT IN JUST A SECOND. BUT TELL US, WHY DO YOU THINK THAT THE POTATOES ARE SUCH A HIT WHEN FOLKS COME HERE TO THE FARM? WELL, THE CO-OP IS ONE OF THE OLDEST FOOD ITEMS AT FARM SHOW. WE SOLD POTATOES FOR $0.05 A PIECE AT ON CAMERON STREET TO THE CROWDS COMING INTO FARM SHOW AT SOME OF THE FIRST FARM SHOWS. WE USED TO BAKE THEM IN THE BOTTOM OF THE PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURAL BUILDING AND IN SOMEWHERE IN THE 1950S, WE STARTED MAKING POTATO DONUTS, AND THE REST IS HISTORY. OUR LINES SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES. WE LOVE THE ART. SO WE’RE GOING TO TRY A COUPLE OF THINGS HERE. SO TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT WE GOT HERE. THIS LOOKS EXPLANATORY. LET US KNOW WHAT WE GOT. SO WE HAVE OUR POTATO DONUTS THAT ARE MADE FRESH EVERY DAY. WE START AT FOUR IN THE MORNING. WE GOT POWDERED SUGAR, PLAIN AND CINNAMON SUGAR AND THEY’RE WARM, FRESH MADE EVERY MORNING. WE SELL OUT EVERY NIGHT. NO PRESERVATIVES. YOU’RE NEVER GOING TO GET A DONUT LIKE ONE OF THESE. I CAN TELL YOU THAT. I LOVE THAT OKAY. AND THEN WHAT DO WE HAVE HERE? THESE LOOK LIKE DUMPLINGS, BUT I KNOW THEY’RE NOT DUMPLINGS, RIGHT? RIGHT. SO THEY’RE PIEROGIES MADE BY P█IEROGIAND HAZELTON. THEY’RE ONE OF OUR PARTNERS. THEY USE PENNSYLVANIA POTATOES TO MAKE THE MASHED POTATOES IN THE MIDDLE. THEY HAVE A BEAUTIFUL FLUFFY DOUGH. WE BOIL THEM IN HOT WATER, AND THEN WE SAUTE ONIONS AND BUTTER AND PUT THAT ON TOP AND MELTS IN YOUR MOUTH. HEY, LISTEN, I’M NOT MAD AT MELT IN YOUR MOUTH. ALL RIGHT? SO I’M GOING TO TRY THIS. I KNOW I GOT TO THROW IN JUST A COUPLE OF SECONDS, BUT I’M GOING TO TRY THIS HERE ON AIR. THIS IS THE PIEROGI. LET’S SEE WHAT WE GOT HERE. THIS IS DELICIOUS. I’M SORRY. I’M TALKING ABOUT FOOD IN MY MOUTH. I’VE NEVER HAD A BEARGGUY HERE. AT THE FARM. BUT THIS IS SO GOOD, MAN. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO MAKE THIS? SO WE BOIL THEM FOR ABOUT 5 TO 6 MINUTES IN HOT WATER, AND THEN WE JUST ADD THE PUT THEM IN BUTTER AND THEN ADD THE ONIONS. WE GIVE THE CUSTOMERS THE OPTION OF ONIONS OR NO ONIONS, BUT ALMOST EVERYBODY PICKS ONIONS. LAST YEAR WE SAUTEED OVER 1,500 POUNDS OF ONIONS. WE DID OVER 6000 DOZEN OF PIEROGIES, AND WE MAKE THOUSANDS OF DOZENS OF POTATO DONUTS EVERY DAY. IT’S OUR BIG FUNDRAISER OF THE YEAR. OUR DAY TO DAY IS SELLING PENNSYLVANIA GROWN POTATOES TO THE SNACK FOOD MANUFACTURERS. HERE IN PENNSYLVANIA. WE WORK WITH PENNSYLVANIA IS KNOWN AS SNACK FOOD CAPITAL OF THE WORLD, AND WE WORK WITH UTZ, HERR’S, MARTIN’S, MIDDLESWORTH AND WISE AND BERWICK. THEY ALL SUPPORT OUR GROWERS. THE FUNDS THAT WE MAKE HERE AT FARM SHOW, KEEP OUR OFFICE STAFF GOING AND KEEP US MARKETING POTATOES FOR OUR PENNSYLVANIA GROWERS HERE IN THE STATE.
