Marching hand-and-hand, young and old took to the streets in Southside Bethlehem to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy during Monday’s Dr. Martin Luther King Civil Rights Movement March.

Participants gathered in front of the Comfort Suites and St. Bernard’s Beneficial Society & Home of Good Samaritans to start the march.

They marched Broadway to Carlton Avenue, through slush to Martin Luther King Park, where memorials to King and wife Coretta Scott King are located.

A short ceremony was held at Martin Luther King Park where guests reflected on King’s legacy and the importance of continuing to keep what he fought for alive.

Bethlehem Mayor J. William Reynolds and state Rep. Steve Samuelson, who have been participating in the march for years, reflected on King’s legacy.

“Martin Luther King’s message was the idea to make the world a better place, we need to understand that progress comes when we are working together for other people,” said Reynolds.

“When we see inequality we shall overcome,” said Samuelson.
