MEDIA, PA — A Delaware County man had $30,000 effectively stolen from him via a scammer online, authorities said.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the victim, a 73-year-old Media man, sent the scammer $30,000 over several months.
Authorities learned of the situation on Aug. 8 when troopers were called to a home in Middletown Township.
Police said the victim began talking to a person he believed was a woman on WhatsApp in early January 2025.
The victim communicated with the person until Aug. 8.
During that period of time, that person told the victim she needed financial help and that she would pay him back in the future if he supported her, police said.
Eventually, the victim asked for his money back, but the woman denied him, according to police.
