A Forks Township man was cited after allegedly pretending to steal money from a shopper in a TikTok prank at a Lehigh Valley store.

Colonial Regional police said officers responded around noon Oct. 8 to the Walmart in the Northampton Crossings shopping center, 3722 Easton Nazareth Highway in Lower Nazareth, for a man reportedly stealing money from shoppers electronically with a cellphone.

Investigators found the 28-year-old man, who allegedly told police that the prank was part of a TikTok challenge he was performing for his account.

In the prank, users approach people, place their phones near them, and state that they have stolen cash from them, police said.

The man at the Walmart repeatedly placed his cellphone near a victim, made the phone emit an “audible ding,” and stated, “I just stole $20 from you,” according to police.

The man was cited for disorderly conduct and harassment.
