The offense keeps firing for the Hazleton Area girls’ basketball team.
The Lady Cougars put up 29 points in the first quarter, and held Wyoming Valley West to single digits in each quarter to pick up the 73-27 win in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 game Monday night.
With its 12th straight win, Hazleton Area remained undefeated in the league at 7-0, and one game ahead of Dallas for first place. The Mountaineers beat Pittston Area, 52-38, on Monday.
Mariah Marolo and Kaitlyn Bindas each had 15 points to lead Hazleton Area.
Thalia Izizarry paced Wyoming Valley West with six points.
Hazleton Area’s junior varsity team also continued to roll, beating WVW, 57-32. Molly Temchatin led the way with 19 points. Teammates Juliana Silva and Anna Shafer tossed in 11 and 10, respectively.
The Lady Cougars (16-1 overall) will visit Pittston Area on Thursday.
Crestwood 70, Wilkes-Barre Area 44
In Wright Twp., the Lady Comets scored 25 points in each of the first and third quarters to pick up the Division 1 win.
Keira Dougherty hit 10 shots for 23 points. Jackie Gallagher ended with 14 points, Jordan Andrews netted 12 and Charlie Hiller scored 11.
For Wilkes-Barre Area, Jaida Underwood scored 21 of the Wolfpack’s 44 points.
Holy Redeemer 56, MMI Prep 12
Every Holy Redeemer player that checked into the game scored points as the host Lady Royals picked up the Division 2 victory.
Bella Boylan and Amara Makarczyk each finished with eight for the Lady Royals, and Olivia Dutko netted seven points.
Anna Drobnock hit three 3-pointers for nine points for MMI Prep.
Tamaqua 38, Blue Mountain 34, OT
At Tamaqua, Lauren Ligenza scored all six of Tamaqua’s points in overtime as the Lady Raiders outlasted Blue Mountain in Schuylkill League Division I action.
Millie Black (15 points, 12 rebounds) and Ligenza (13 points, 11 boards) recorded double-doubles for the winners. Teammate Leah Black added eight points.
Karley Koch and Callie Peel paced the Eagles with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Elaina Coleman netted 17 points to lead Tamaqua to a 30-28 win in the junior varsity game. Teammate Mia Bamford contributed 12 rebounds.
Weatherly 23, Nativity 22
Maci Kane rimmed seven points and Kelly Reiner added six as the visiting Lady Wreckers held off Nativity in a Schuylkill League Division II contest.
Alexia Kehler helped the winners’ cause with five points.
Macie Rushannon had 14 points for the Golden Girls.

Keion Wheeler showed the way for the Panthers with 13 points. Owen Alves was right behind with 12 and Mason McDonald added eight.
