Singer-songwriter and pianist John Legend will perform at the F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts in Wilkes-Barre on May 3. The show begins at 8 p.m.
An artist’s presale begins Wednesday for “An Evening of Songs & Stories.” Tickets go on sale to Kirby Center members Thursday and to the public Friday, both at 10 a.m. Tickets start at $115, plus online fees.
Legend was choir director at Bethel AME Church in Scranton for nine years, commuting from Philadelphia as a college student and then from New York City.
He visited Bethel AME Church just before the 2024 presidential election to campaign for Democratic candidate Vice President Kamala Harris. He also stopped at the Black Scranton Project and some businesses.

He is one of around two dozen people who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award, an accomplishment known as an EGOT.
He has won 13 Grammy Awards, with songs such as “Ordinary People” and “Church” and the album “Get Lifted.”
Legend was a judge on “The Voice” television show, and was nominated for an Emmy for his performance as Jesus in NBC’s “Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.”
Kirby Center members can purchase tickets to most shows earlier than the public, among other benefits. Membership starts at $50.
