PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — People filled restaurants across Philadelphia on Tuesday night as Center City District Restaurant Week drew diners eager to enjoy discounted meals.
Managers said the chilly temperatures did little to keep customers away from the nearly two-week event, which features 120 participating restaurants offering prix-fixe menus.
Dolce Italian is among the eateries seeing steady traffic.
“It tastes like love,” said Michael Brown of Baltimore. “I think we’ll be here plenty before we end up leaving town.”
The promotion includes three-course dinners priced at either $45 or $60 and two-course lunches for $20. For many, the event is a chance to explore new flavors.
“I think it’s a great opportunity to taste test different things and get a taste of the city,” said Madeline Grund of Philadelphia.
Cuisine options range widely, from American to Mediterranean to Mexican.
At El Vez, assistant general manager Laura Corvino highlighted the restaurant’s specialties.
“We make fresh margaritas and guacamole. You can’t get any better than that. Then after so many margaritas, you can get some nachos,” she said.
Some patrons said the atmosphere is just as appealing as the food.
“They have snacks. It’s always a lively energy and a good vibe. It’s a great place,” said Joe Rusko of Center City.
For those seeking plant-based dishes or craft cocktails, Charlie Was A Sinner is also drawing interest. Hostess Jillian Metzker said, “It’s been absolutely amazing. We’ve seen a really big uptick in business. We love the clientele.”
Grund added of the venue, “I really do like the ambiance. Everything looks so good.”
Restaurant managers hope the event encourages customers to return. “It’s just a good opportunity to come and try everything out and hopefully you come back in the future,” said Jason DiDomenico, general manager of Dolce Italian.
Center City District Restaurant Week runs through January 31.
Some garages also offer discounted parking for $10 or less.
