With frigid temps hanging around, it’s the perfect recipe for sibling battles, too much screen time, and a serious case of cabin fever. Thankfully, there’s lots going on in and around Pittsburgh to give everyone a chance to run off some of that energy (and maybe learn something in the process).

Friday, Jan. 23-Sunday, Jan. 25: World of Wheels Custom Car Show at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center
Explore the latest trends in car customization and meet industry experts who will be on hand to share their knowledge and passion. Kids will enjoy live demonstrations, interactive exhibits and a chance to see some of the most unique vehicles on the planet. Saturday, Jan. 24: PiratesFest 2026 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Fans will have the chance to meet their favorite Pirates players, take photos and collect autographs. The event features a wide variety of interactive games and activities suitable for all ages. Reserve free tickets here.

Saturday, Jan. 24: Mascot Skate at Schenley Ice Rink, 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Hang out and skate with some of your favorite Pittsburgh area mascots. Online-only tickets are $6 for grownups, $5 for seniors and vets, $3 for kids.

Saturday, Jan. 24: “Tapescape” opening at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
More than 50 miles of packing tape is transformed into a veritable playground of tunnels, walls and climbing terrain. This popular exhibit includes activities, challenge and surprises. Tapescape will run through May 10 and is included with museum admission.

Saturday, Jan. 24: Phil-a-Palooza Meet and Greet, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Punxsutawney Phil is back at Wigle Whiskey, ready to meet his youngest fans! Join Wigle for a family-friendly event on Saturday afternoon. Kids attend free with a paid adult ticket, and tickets are $12. Find more details about the food and beverage options here.
Saturday, Jan. 24: Curtain Call – Celebration of Super Bowl X, 5 p.m.
On January 18, 1976, the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Dallas Cowboys 21–17 in Super Bowl X to claim their second consecutive world championship and solidify the start of a dynasty. Fifty years later, relive the magic of that historic game with “Curtain Call: A 50-Year Celebration of Super Bowl X.” Join legends from the 1975 Steelers championship team for an evening of stories, game highlights with live commentary from the players themselves, and an on-stage panel discussion. This event is open to all ages, and tickets are $125.
Saturday, Jan. 24: Crafting with Cats at Kitty Queen Cat Rescue, 5:30 p.m.
Make a bright bouquet to fight the winter blues! Use your creativity to make a unique bouquet on a canvas using egg cartons, paint, pipe cleaners and other crafty materials. The event hosts will supply the crafting materials, lights snacks and non-alcoholic beverages. Guests are encouraged to bring their own scissors. This event is recommended for crafters age 10 and up. The cost is $24 and tickets can be purchased here.

Saturday, Jan. 24-Sunday, Jan 25: Penguin Palooza at the National Aviary, 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Meet the colony of African Penguins in Penguin Point, make penguin-themed crafts and listen to expert talks while learning how you can help penguins and other marine life every day. This event is included with Aviary admission.
Saturday, Jan. 24 and Sunday, Jan. 25: Celebrate International LEGO Day at Ross Park Mall, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Join Steel City LUG to celebrate everyone’s favorite plastic bricks during this free event at Ross Park Mall’s Center Court during mall hours Saturday and Sunday. Check out the group’s LEGO display, watch a live build, complete their scavenger hunt, and more. Find details here.
Sunday, Jan. 25: Prince and Princess Skate at The UPMC Rink at PPG Place, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
