Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith has missed out on another offensive coordinator gig that he interviewed for, as former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel is set to take the gig under Jim Harbaugh.
Smith was the offensive coordinator for the Titans from 2019 to 2020 and a position coach in the organization for over a decade before landing a head coaching gig.
In 2021, Smith was hired as the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, but lasted three years before he was fired by owner Arthur Blank.
Smith is the one with the most direct connection to the Titans organization. A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Smith’s rise in Tennessee was no coincidence.
Meanwhile, he also turned down the North Carolina head coaching job a year ago before the school settled on Bill Belichick. Smith went to North Carolina, but turned down his alma mater after boosters and the school approached him to take on the job.
Smith has interviewed for two offensive coordinator openings while also landing two interviews for open head coaching jobs, including one that is currently open in the Arizona Cardinals job.
Smith is likely to land a coordinator gig somewhere given the sheer amount of openings, but his status with the Steelers remains in limbo.
