Charles M. Kelly, Jr. ‘Marty’

OBITUARY

Charles M. Kelly, Jr., Marty of Glenmaura and formerly of Clarks Green, died Monday at Allied Services Hospice, Scranton. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy Gillespie Kelly.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Dr. Charles M. and M. Gertrude Reirdon Kelly. Marty was raised in Green Ridge and graduated from Scranton Preparatory School, class of 1955, and the University of Scranton, class of 1959 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Upon graduating, Marty held a teaching position in South River, NJ. He then went on to a career at IBM. He found his true calling as a Financial Advisor, serving his clients for over 30 years.

Always community minded, Marty served on the Abington Library Board, the Rotary Club of the Abingtons, receiving the Paul Harris medal, the highest honor in Rotary, Knights of Columbus, council 280. He was a 50+ year member of The Country Club of Scranton, a member of the Executive Committee, Friendly Sons of St Patrick of Lackawanna County and The Victor Alfieri Club and Treasurer of the Sugar Sands Yacht Club, Florida.

He was not only a devoted husband to his wife, Nancy, he was a proud father to his four children, his grandchildren and his great-grandson. He will be greatly missed by all who called him a friend.

He is survived by his daughters, Colleen Ducas, Dunmore, Maura Cianciulli and her husband, John, West Chester and son, Rev. Father Canon Charles M. Kelly, Ramsey, NJ, grandchildren, Attorney Bo Loughney, Brigid Loughney, Matthew Ducas, Ali Cianciulli, Maeve Ducas, Vince Cianciulli, Ryan Bianco, and his great grandson, Benjamin Bartlett. He is survived by his brother, Dr. Joseph T. Kelly and his wife, Amy, along with several nieces and nephews including his business partner, Atty. Chris Kelly.

In addition to his wife, he is also preceded in death by his daughter, Kim Bianco, granddaughter, Kelly McDowell, brother Michael R Kelly and his wife, Margaret Kelly.

The funeral will be Friday from Albert P O’Donnell Funeral Home, 2025 Green Ridge St., Dunmore with a funeral mass offered at 10:00am at St. Pau’ls Church, 1510 Penn Ave., Scranton, Internment, St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call Thursday from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. All those attending the funeral are asked to proceed directly to the church on Friday morning.

The family would like to thank the staff at Allied Skilled Care, Allied Hospice and the wonderful caring staff at Glenmaura Senior Living.
