An investigation is underway, officials said, after a 41-year-old man stepped backward off a platform at Hunting Park Station and was struck and killed by SEPTA’s Broad Street Line train on Wednesday morning.
According to police, the incident happened at about 1:30 a.m., when a man — identified by officials as 41-year-old Terrell Burton, of North Philadelphia, allegedly stepped backwards after exiting a Broad Street Line train at the Hunting Park Station, located on the 4200 block of North Broad Street.
The step backwards, officials said, caused Burton to fall between the train and the platform as the train began to move southbound along the track.
Police said Burton was subsequently run over by the train and he was pronounced at the scene at about 2:03 a.m.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing, officials said.
