DUNMORE, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — Motorists traveling through Lackawanna County should expect delays on Interstate 81 later this week as crews conduct routine inspections along the highway.
PennDOT officials announced that both northbound and southbound lanes of I-81 will be impacted by temporary lane restrictions and mobile lane closures between Exit 180 in Moosic and Exit 186 near Dunmore and Drinker Street. The work is scheduled for Thursday, January 22, and will take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Officials say lanes may be closed intermittently for short periods—approximately 15 minutes at a time—while crews inspect overhead sign structures along the roadway. Traffic will be allowed to resume once inspections move to the next location.
Drivers are urged to use caution when traveling through the work zone. PennDOT reminds motorists to follow posted speed limits, use headlights, and remain alert for changing traffic patterns, signs, and workers. To help keep traffic moving, officials also recommend using all available lanes until reaching the merge point and alternating into the open lane when instructed.
PennDOT advises drivers to plan for extra travel time and remain patient as crews complete the necessary safety inspections.
