The teen, later identified as 17-year-old Ishara Kami, was a senior at Carrick High School. Vision Zero Pittsburgh said weeks following her death, they believe weather conditions caused the vehicle to slide down the road and onto the sidewalk as Kami stood. “Weather conditions on the 19th brought on an instantaneous snow and ice storm, causing poor visibility and roadway conditions,” the post said. “These conditions likely caused the driver to lose control of his vehicle, as it slid down the roadway, and onto the sidewalk.” Following the incident, the post said the Vision Zero Fatal Crash Response Team, alongside the Pittsburgh Police Collision Investigation Unit, completed a site visit to the intersection. The post said Brownsville Road will receive a number of corridor improvements, including curb extensions at West Woodford Avenue. The changes are expected to begin in 2027.
