LEHIGH COUNTY, Pa. (KYW) – Immigration and Customs Enforcement is getting the boot from Lehigh County, Pennsylvania.
Lehigh County Executive Josh Siegel said the county is terminating the lease agreement with the Department of Homeland Security due to the agency’s failure to pay rent.
“At the end of the day, they didn’t pay their bills. They could say whatever they want, but I mean this is very clearly they haven’t paid their bills in three years. We just found out and I am making sure that everyone knows about that,” Siegel said.
Siegel said other factors for terminating the lease include the DHS’ reputation for public disorder around the country and that officials in Lehigh County refuse to accept “blood money.”
The Lehigh County controller said ICE and the DHS owe more than $100,000 in unpaid rent for an Allentown office space the county owns.

“I can only make recommendations about policy, which is what I’ve done. But I’m very specific about the numbers and how much they owe us, and they haven’t paid us in three years,” Siegel added.
Neither ICE nor DHS has responded to requests for comment on the matter.
