Two people were hurt in a four-vehicle pileup Tuesday morning along Interstate 78 in Upper Macungie Township.

Trooper Nathan Branosky, public information officer with Pennsylvania State Police’s Troop M, told lehighvalleylive.com the accident began shortly after 9:30 a.m. at mile marker 50.1 in the eastbound lanes.

The four vehicles involved included a tractor-trailer, minivan and two sedans. It’s unclear what led up to the accident as Pennsylvania State Police in Fogelsville continues to investigate.

Two people were injured, a female driver of a Volvo VC60 and a male driver of a Chrysler Voyager. Both were taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest in Salisbury Township for treatment of injuries, Branosky said.

Conditions were not immediately available.

WFMZ-69 News reported a portion of the highway was shut down near the Route 100 North-Fogelsville exit during the accident. That portion has since been reopened.
