The Pittsburgh Steelers have a lot of questions that need to be answered as their offseason gets underway with their head coaching and quarterback positions both needing to be addressed.
Following yet another playoff disappointment, Mike Tomlin decided to step down as the team’s head coach. A new era of football will be starting for the Steelers, as Tomlin was the head coach in Pittsburgh from 2007 through 2025. Plenty of candidates have been mentioned as potential choices for the team.
As for the quarterback position, Aaron Rodgers played the 2025 NFL season one a one-year deal for the Steelers. There has been some buzz about him returning in 2026, although the departure of Tomlin poured cold water on that idea.

That being said, one of the top coaching candidates in Pittsburgh is Mike McCarthy. He and Rodgers were together on the Green Bay Packers years ago. Could the two reunite with the Steelers in 2026?

Since McCarthy started emerging as a potential front-runner for Pittsburgh’s coaching job, the rumors about a Rodgers reunion have grown louder. However, the Steelers have now received a serious warning about that idea.
Former NFL quarterback and current ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky doesn’t want to see Pittsburgh make that move. During an appearance on “Get Up,” Orlovsky made it clear that hiring McCarthy and re-signing Rodgers would be a bad decision.
“Hiring Mike McCarthy and bringing Aaron [Rodgers] back would be the worst decision Pittsburgh could make,” Orlovsky said.
While the warning should be considered, McCarthy is a great NFL coach. He has had a lot of success over the years, with much of that success coming with Rodgers as his quarterback. In fact, the two won a Super Bowl together in Green Bay.

It’s not a guarantee that the two would have success together with the Steelers. However, they’ve been a good pairing. At the very least, Rodgers would give Pittsburgh time to find a long-term quarterback option.
Expect to hear more rumors about the Steelers, their coaching search, and Rodgers in the coming days and weeks. Pittsburgh has some difficult decisions to make ahead of them.
