Parents React to Blessed Sacrament School Closure

The relocation of the Mother Teresa Academy (MTA) to the former Blessed Sacrament School building has been approved by the Board of Directors and Corporate Members. The move of the school will begin for the 2026 to 2027 academic year.

This move and milestone will showcase the school system’s strategic plan to expand Catholic education within Erie. After months of planning, community engagement, and mission-centered discernment the relocation is finalized.

“We began the process to investigate moving MTA to Blessed Sacrament this past summer and are grateful today for the unanimous support of our Board and Corporate Members,” said Kevin Smith, President of VMCPCSS. “Their approval affirms our shared commitment to strengthening Catholic education and ensuring that Mother Teresa Academy continues to thrive in a space that meets the needs of our growing student body.”

The MTA is Catholic, philanthropic-based school that aims to deliver a Christ-centered, faith-based education to kindergarten to grade eight students who live in the underserved neighborhoods.

The former Blessed Sacrament School building offers increased capacity, enhanced facilities, and a neighborhood setting that aligns with the overall mission, which is to serve students from the economically challenged communities in Erie.

With the move there will be an increased academic programming, enhanced safety measures, and deeper community partnerships.

“This relocation is more than a change of address, it’s a bold investment in the future of our students,” said Jason Ladouceur, Vice President of Academics and Student Affairs. “We look forward to welcoming families into a space designed to reflect the excellence and faith-based values that define MTA, while upholding our mission driven identity and enrollment process.”

Those who are MTA families and Blessed Sacrament parishioners will receive detailed information about the coming transition and he possible opportunities to partake in the move with transparency and collaboration.

The school plans to continue to honor the legacy of Blessed Sacrament School by ensuring the continuation of Catholic education through the MTA mission.
