The Bethlehem school board approved a plan to move around 145 elementary students to different schools in an effort to balance enrollments and ease overcrowding.

The board on Wednesday passed an elementary rezoning plan known as Option 3A, which will relocate up to 130 students to Hamagrael and Slingerlands elementary schools from what it said was the overcrowded Eagle and Glenmont elementary schools in the 2026-27 school year.

Additionally, about 15 students will move to Elsmere Elementary School from Slingerlands Elementary School beginning in 2028-29.

The board voted to allow fifth-graders from the neighborhoods to remain at the schools they presently attend for the 2026–27 school year.

Superintendent Jody Monroe said the district will share details about transition plans in the coming weeks.

“We understand that this process has been challenging and that change is often difficult,” Monroe said. “We have amazing building leaders, teachers and staff who will be working to ease this transition for all students.”
