READING, Pa. –The Berks County Commissioners heard a report at their meeting Thursday morning where Chief Administrative Officer Kevin Barnhardt said the county’s operations department has been engaged since Wednesday preparing for the winter storm forecast for this weekend.

“I’ve been working with facilities, human resources, legal, the public relations officer, with the 24/7 operations, as well as the courts, to prepare for the storm,” Barnhardt said. “We’ve been in touch also with the City of Reading since we are right in the heart of the City of Reading and hundreds of people, not only employees, but folks come in here for services”

“We’re engaged with all those as well as the South Campus, owned by the Redevelopment Authority, in preparation for the storm,” he said. “We will continue to keep the public updated on our website, in the news outlets, as well as Berks Alert Technology. We’re anticipating a pretty heavy storm and everybody’s getting ready and prepared for it. So, we’ll keep the board and the public apprised.”

‘It looks like it’s going to hit us, it’s just a magnitude of how much it’s going to hit us,” Barnhardt added. “It’s not going to veer one way or the other; it’s coming. But I think it’s giving us enough advance notice so we can prepare for it and have everybody engaged and ready to go.”
