Frederick W. Pencek, formerly of Clarks Summit, PA, and Mauldin, SC, died September 20th at Luther Crest Retirement Community, Allentown, PA. He and his wife, Carol Pfaff Pencek, were married 62 years on September 14th.
Born in Scranton on July 31, 1940, he was the son of the late Ferdinand F. Pencek and the late Romayne M. Shafer Pencek. He was an Eagle Scout with Troop 30, Trinity Congregational Church, Scranton. He was a graduate of West Scranton High School Class of 1958 where he played football and basketball. He then attended Keystone Junior College transferring to General Motors Institute, now Kettering University, in Flint, MI, earning a BME. While there, he served as president of Phi Delta Fraternity, Michigan Delta Chapter, and vice president of the Interfraternity Council. He received an MBA degree from the University of Scranton and graduated from the IBM Systems Research Institute in New York City.
Before retiring, he worked for GMC, the Trane Company and 36 years for the IBM Corporation in a variety of positions. He was an adjunct professor at Marywood University for 19 years teaching graduate students in the Business and Managerial Services curriculum.
He was a member and Past Master of Waverly Lodge #301 F&AM, Keystone Consistory and the Irem Temple Shrine. He was a member of the former St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Scranton, and Trinity Lutheran Church, Clarks Summit, where he served several terms on the Church Council, Administrator of the Preschool, Chairman of Christian Education and Youth Leader. He enjoyed hiking, hunting and golf serving as secretary/treasurer of three different leagues. He served on the Board of Directors of the Meadow Run Mountain Lake Association as Treasurer for many years.
Surviving are two sons, Michael Frederick, Charlotte, NC; Mark David and his wife Robyn, Liberty Township, OH; and one daughter, Joyce Elizabeth Yoder and her husband, Kristopher, Allentown. He had four wonderful grandchildren, Evan, Julia, Tatum and Tanner. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by a sister-in-law, Sharon of Scranton; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by a brother, Richard.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, on Saturday, November 8th at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend George J. Mathews officiating. Interment will be at Abington Hills Cemetery.
