EASTON, Pa. – Northampton County has a new controller, and its council has a new solicitor.

Both positions were on the agenda for council’s meeting Thursday night.

The position of county controller was vacated by Tara Zrinski, who is now the county executive.

Four candidates applied for the job and were interviewed by members of council on Thursday.

Ultimately, Timothy Brezinski, a certified public accountant (CPA) from Hanover Township, got the gig. He’s currently the controller of Allentown’s Comprehensive Pain Center, and he’s has had prior positions in accounting and finance.

“My skill is accounting. I do know numbers. Numbers do mean something to me,” Brezinski told council.

He got five affirmative votes from the nine-member body. The other candidates were John Cusick, Leo Atkinson, and Thomas Frumpkin. Cusick, a former Northampton County commissioner (members of council are called commissioners), previously ran for the role of county controller in 2023 but lost to Zrinski.

Northampton County Council also selected Matthew Deschler to serve as its next solicitor. He’ll take over for Christopher Spadoni, who is retiring.

In addition, council approved Zrinski’s nominees for director of administration (Mark Aurand) and director of corrections (DeAnn Lawrence).
