A 93-year-old Lehigh County woman died Wednesday from hypothermia after she was exposed to cold outdoor temperatures, according to authorities.
The woman was pronounced dead about 11 p.m. on the back patio of her home in Lower Macungie Township, Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio said in a news release. She was found outside by family members who were checking on her, he said.
Her cause of death is hypothermia complicating cardiovascular disease, according to the release. She has been identified, but Buglio said he was not releasing her identity Friday so her family can grieve privately.
The coroner said she was appropriately dressed for the weather, and there were no concerns of her cognitive ability.
The woman was found during an extended cold period for the Lehigh Valley. A low of -9 was recorded Wednesday, according to weather service data. More bitter colder days are expected through the next week or so.
“I encourage people to be aware of the upcoming weather and check on your friends, family and neighbors,” Buglio said.
