SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — The Everhart Museum is looking a little more Ever-heart as the Garden of Cedar’s fourth annual Garden of Hearts fills the museum’s front lawn.
This popular South Scranton tradition allows anyone to request a heart inscribed with a personalized message to be displayed throughout February at no cost, with donations welcome.
After Valentine’s Day, those who submitted heart requests can locate their hearts and take them home.
As of now, about 600 hearts stand in front of the Everhart, with organizers expecting the total to surpass last year’s 2,000.
While the Garden of Hearts is typically held on Cedar Avenue, Frank Dubas, president of the Garden of Cedar, said a decision was made in advance to move the event to the Everhart Museum.
He said heavy snowfall would have required clearing sidewalks by piling snow on top of the garden beds where the hearts would be displayed.
Additionally, the Everhart Museum offers greater parking accessibility, making it easier for visitors to stop by and see their hearts.
“This is the fourth year we’re doing the heart event. The previous three years, we held it at the Garden of Cedar on Cedar Avenue in South Scranton. This year, for a number of reasons, including the weather we’ve had, we thought it would be a little easier to do it at the Everhart Museum,” said Dubas.
Dubas added that he is unsure whether next year’s Garden of Hearts will remain at the Everhart or return to the Garden of Cedar.
Those interested are encouraged to submit heart requests as early as possible, while supplies last, to ensure their hearts are displayed.
