BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Code Blue has been issued for Thursday night due to cold temperatures and lake effect conditions in Erie County.

The Code Blue shelter at the Buffalo City Mission (located at 100 E Tupper St. in Buffalo) will be open from 7 p.m. Thursday to 7 a.m. Friday.

The Buffalo City Mission’s daytime shelter is open daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Those seeking shelter can obtain bus tickets at the NFTA Metropolitan Transportation Center, located at 181 Ellicott St., from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for transportation to the Code Blue shelter. Those seeking shelter will not be allowed to wait outside the NFTA outside of those hours.

A Code Blue is activated when temperatures drop below freezing or 15 degrees Fahrenheit, triggering one of two alerts: Code Blue 32 or Code Blue 15.

Extreme weather conditions near zero degrees trigger an additional response.
