Patrick Thomas Tierney
OBITUARY
Patrick T. Tierney, 66, of Scranton, passed away peacefully Monday at home after a short, yet courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Paul F. Tierney Sr. and Elizabeth Noto Tierney. Patrick was a graduate of Bishop Klonowski High School class of 1977 and received his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Penn State University. He retired from the Tobyhanna Army Depot after serving for 34 years.
Few things are impossible with diligence and skill. These were words he lived by from an early age. His diligence and skill could be observed in everything he did. Pat was loved by many and was very sociable, never having a bad word to say about anyone or anything. He always unselfishly put everyone ahead of himself. Weekly, he would chat over breakfast with family and friends swapping tales and wisdom of the day. He enjoyed going to auctions, finding deals and items needed for his loved ones. He was physically active going to the gym, fishing, golfing, and spending his summer days at the Noto family farm tending to his garden. Most of all, Pat loved a Thursday night burger and wing bites and weekly Sunday dinners around the table enjoying family gatherings. On holidays, Pat was the master of making homemade pasta, family stuffing, and cranberry sauce from recipes handed down through the generations.
Pat is survived by his sister Mary Reynolds (Mame), and her husband Daniel, Scranton; brother Paul F. Tierney Jr. and his wife, Beverly, Huntsville, Alabama; nieces and nephews, Sarah Marie Schlapman, Paul F. Tierney III, Amy Valentukonis, Daniel Reynolds and their spouses; 5 great nieces and nephews, an aunt, Marie Noto Weisenberger, cousins, and many, many friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Kristin Liptock and the staff of Sacred Heart Hospice for their kindness and compassionate care.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements by the Nicholas Chomko Funeral Home, 1132 Prospect Ave., South Scranton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 30 E.D. Preate Dr. Suite 108, Moosic, PA 18507.
