Pennsylvania police shot a 27-year-old man who allegedly fired at them multiple times during a tense standoff in North Whitehall Township on Saturday, authorities said.

The victim, whose identity was not released, was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest following the 2 p.m. shooting. His condition was not immediately available on Saturday night.

Troopers were called to a home on the 2800 block of Rockdale Road just after 11 a.m. on a report of a man with a gun causing a disturbance, according to statement from the Pennsylvania State Police.

Police arrived and found a man in a 2009 Camry parked in the driveway and holding a gun, officials said.

Troopers said they established a perimeter and attempted to talk the man from North Whitehall Township into surrendering. However, he fired the weapon “more than once,” and pointed it at the troopers multiple times, the Pennsylvania State Police said in a news release.

The Pennsylvania State Police Emergency Team arrived and tried to negotiate a peaceful end to the standoff. But at approximately 2 p.m., the man ”discharged his firearm from the vehicle and was engaged by a SERT member who shot” him, the state police said.

Additional information on the incident was not available on Saturday night. A spokesman for the Pennsylvania State Police barracks in Bethlehem did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The shooting is being investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police Major Case Team and the Lehigh Valley District Attorney’s Office.
