Several regional student artists will compete nationally in the Scholastic Art Awards after winning regional honors. Work by those artists and other winners will be displayed at the Everhart Museum.

At the highest level, the regional American Vision nominees are: Kody Hanor, Wallenpaupack Area High School; Casper Karr, Northwest Area Junior Senior High School; Jacob Layland, Scranton Preparatory School; Miranda Lugo, Hazleton Area Arts & Humanities Academy; and Maya Zhivkovich, Delaware Valley High School.

The five “exuded originality,” in the eyes of the anonymous judges panel, all area art professionals, said Camille Dantone, the museum’s director of education.

Hanor competed in the ceramics and glass category. Karr was recognized for drawing and Layland for photography. Lugo and Zhivkovich were honored for paintings. Their work will be judged and exhibited in the Scholastic Art Awards national event in June in New York City.
