Max Shnipes recorded a pair of pins at 285 pounds to help the University of Scranton wrestling team win a tri-match over Sussex Community College, 38-17, and Northampton Community College, 51-6, in a tri-match Saturday at the John Long Center.

Shnipes pinned Sussex’s Phillip Pritchard in 51 seconds, then pinned Sencee Dikenah of Northampton in 4:06.

Donell Young (165) won by technical fall and Quinton Laughlin (184) by decision for the Royals against Sussex.

Scranton then had five pins and three technical falls against Northampton. Besides Shnipes, Luke Burke (157), Kevin McCarvill (165), Alex Boyd (exhibition 133) and Jason Kays (exhibition 174) won by pin. Joseph Cappello (125), Nicholas Gilmore (141) and Jake Rudy (174) had technical fall victories.

Jamestown CC Jayhawks Open: At Jamestown, New York, Brodie Daugherty went 5-0 to capture the title at 285 pounds and headline Lackawanna College’s performance at the Jamestown Community College Jayhawks Open.

Daugherty used a pin, technical fall, medical forfeit and another pin to reach the final, where he decisioned Eli Makel of Edinboro, 8-1.

Richard Leslie placed second at 165 pounds for the Falcons, losing by decision in the final, 8-5, to Teshaun Matthews from SUNY Niagara on a takedown with 32 seconds left. Matt Gashi-Brito went 6-2 to finish fourth at 149 pounds, while Jeremiah Diaz took sixth at 184 pounds.

Women’s basketball

At Scranton, Lackawanna College had its three-game winning streak halted with a 63-47 loss to Salem Community College in a NJCAA Region 19 Division II game at the Lackawanna Student Union on Saturday.

Sophia Summa led the Lady Falcons (3-7, 7-11) with 13 points and added six rebounds. Alania Ortiz had 11 points and eight rebounds, while Canyah Randle pulled down 20 rebounds.

Notre Dame of Maryland 75, Keystone 34: At La Plume, Notre Dame of Maryland University handed Keystone College its sixth straight loss in a United East Conference game at Gambal Athletic Center.

Hailee Hackett led the Lady Giants (2-7, 3-17) with 10 points.

Marymount 77, Marywood 72 (OT): At Arlington, Virginia, on Friday, Marymount University erased a 16-point deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime and went on to beat Marywood University in an Atlantic East Conference game.

Jewlya McCullon led the Pacers (4-2, 9-9) with 19 points. Alli Griscavage followed with 14 points, while Alli Anstadt contributed nine points and 11 rebounds.

Men’s basketball

At La Plume, Jden Golding had a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds as Keystone College knocked off Notre Dame of Maryland University, 98-86, in a United East Conference game at the Gambal Athletic Center.

Demetrius Thomas also had a double-double for Keystone (3-5, 5-14) with 10 points and 11 rebounds.  Ahmodrion Jones and Niame Scott scored 22 points apiece, while Kamdyn Ayers contributed 10 points.

Leading by five at halftime, the Giants opened the second half with a 13-3 run. Their largest margin was 94-70 with 3:17 remaining.

Marymount 71, Marywood 47: At Arlington, Virginia, on Friday, Marymount University defeated Marywood University in an Atlantic East Conference game.

Collin Himmelberg led the Pacers (3-3, 10-7) with 17 points.

Men’s swimming

At Madison, New Jersey, the University of Scranton lost to Drew University, 152-135.

Will Tagliareni won the 500-yard freestyle for the Royals in 4:51.26. Jake Brunetti won the 200 backstroke in 1:55.42. Jimmy O’Malley led a sweep in the 1,000 free in 9:57.43. In diving, Liam Malanowski won the one-meter with 160.35 points.

Women’s swimming

At Madison, New Jersey, Aviah Dahlgren won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:46.45 and the 500-yard free in 5:11.75 to lead the University of Scranton to a 179-111 win over Drew University.

Alyssa Bean also had two wins for the Royals in the 200 butterfly in 2:11.19 and 100 fly in 59.61. Kimberly Gingrass won the 50 free and Meredith Sulman touched first in the 200 IM. In diving, Nicole Stofko took both the one-meter with 180.60 points and three-meter with 211.13 points.

Women’s track and field

At Ithaca, New York, the University of Scranton competed at the Ithaca College Six Way Invitational on Saturday. Emily Hopkins won the 5,000 meters in 18:10.77 and Olivia Miller captured the 400 meters in 59.99 seconds, becoming just the second female in program history to break one minute in the event.

Sam Sharrow broke her record in the 60 meters, placing second in 7.74 seconds. She also won the 200 meters in 25.96 seconds and the long jump in 5.42 meters. The Royals won the 4×400 relay in 4:50.11.

Men’s track and field

At Ithaca, New York, Brayden Clarke placed fourth in the mile in 4:33.16 and fifth in the 800 meters in 2:04.89 to headline the University of Scranton’s performance at the Ithaca College Six Way Invitational on Saturday.

Angel Perez also had two top-six finishes for the Royals. He was fifth in the 3,000 meters in 9:15.73 and sixth in the mile in 4:34.36.
