READING, Pa. – We started the day in downtown Reading, where plow trucks were already hard at work clearing main roads as snow continued to fall.

Those plows rolled out of the Department of Public Works, where city crews and first responders were on duty throughout the day.

“They’ve been coming through this afternoon really well,” said Kaleena Sculco, a Reading resident.

From there, we headed into West Reading, where roads and sidewalks were snow-packed and slippery for much of the day.

We then jumped on Route 222 to check conditions in Spring Township.

Neighborhood streets there were especially challenging, with snow-covered roads and difficult driving conditions through the afternoon. At one point, we even got stuck, just like several other drivers along the way.

“It’s horrible,” Sculco said. “I thought it was going to be more. Maybe there’s still more to come, but it was a lot.”

Despite the conditions, traffic remained light across much of the county, and emergency crews were visible throughout the day.

And while travel was tricky, many families made the most of the snow.

“It’s very cold, but I feel like it’s fun being outside,” said student Nivas.

“Just have fun and play in the snow,” added Giovanni, as kids spent the day sledding and playing together.

Before heading out Monday, there are a few important reminders:

BARTA says bus service will be suspended Monday until at least noon. The agency will continue running special shared-ride services for medically necessary and essential worker trips only.

The Reading School District will also be closed, with students learning remotely and receiving assignments at home.
